First Bus helps raise over 1k for Royal British Legion at Poppy Appeal Launch event
First Bus Sheffield is proud to announce its support for the 2024 Poppy Appeal in partnership with the Royal British Legion (RBL).
Ahead of Remembrance Day, First Bus hosted a special community event to highlight the start of the Poppy Appeal which launched last week on the 24th October. The event included live performances from a brass band, poppy-themed face painting for children, and a card-writing activity for attendees to send messages of thanks to veterans living in RBL care homes. The event fundraised £1068.74 for the Royal British Legion.
A key feature of the event was the display of the poppy themed First Bus that will continue its tour of Sheffield throughout the appeal period, raising awareness and honoring the service of veterans. You can find out more about the poppy bus tour and where it has visited so far here.
First Bus will also support Remembrance Sunday by offering free travel to veterans travelling to events across the region on the 9th and 10th November.
Nils Carr, Workshop Manager for First Bus Sheffield, said: “We are incredibly proud to be supporting the Poppy Appeal again this year in partnership with the Royal British Legion. This event was an opportunity for the people of Sheffield to come together and honor those who have served and continue to serve.”
Karen Gardener, Poppy Appeal Manager for Royal British Legion Sheffield said: “Yorkshire Poppy Appeal would like to thank First South Yorkshire for the incredible support for the last year. You have made such an impact at many of our events, including the D Day 80 commemorative events”
Wearing a poppy helps the Royal British legion to deliver support for service personnel & veterans suffering from the psychological and physical impact of combat.
The poppy bus, adorned with images and stories of veterans, will serve as a moving tribute throughout the campaign.
